Our Concept, Our Bike Tour Team and Our Love For Brooklyn

image description

For those who want to experience New York City through the vantage point of its most historic and eclectic neighborhoods, Get Up & Ride offers bike tours through Brooklyn.

We designed our tours to have guests feel like they’re on a bike ride with a friend because we believe that the best way to experience a city is through the eyes of a local. Our group sizes are small, no more than 8 and our licensed guides live in the neighborhoods we ride through. We focus on the sites that are off the beaten path and showcase local art, urban marketplaces, beautiful parks, great food and interesting history. Our guests ride on easy-to-handle, comfortable bikes made specifically for city riding. The beautiful seven-speed, diamond frame PUBLIC bikes were shipped from San Francisco and come standard with rear racks and baskets, so you can do a little riding and pick up some treasures from your Brooklyn experience all at the same time. All the riding on the tour is at a relaxed pace. We’re not racing, we’re sightseeing! BEST OF ALL, our guests are equipped with walkie-talkies and headsets so they stay tuned in to the tour during the entire ride!

Felipe L

Felipe Lavalle is the Tour Director and Owner of Get Up and Ride. He moved to Brooklyn from Washington DC about 4 years ago and started the company after a successful stint in inside sales for an online digital printing company. On any given day you can find him exploring this great city by foot and of course bicycle, playing basketball or soccer or just hanging out with friends. A self-proclaimed foodie and traveling nerd, he loves meeting new people and spending quality time with his family. He often hosts out-of-town guests and enjoys playing the part of “tour guide”. Chances are you’ll meet Felipe on your next Get Up & Ride tour!

Lisa M

Lisa Markuson hails from San Francisco, where babies are born pedaling. Her first word was “cycle.” An advocate and activist for green living, holistic health, experimental art, and non-traditional tourism, Lisa is ecstatic to join the Get Up and Ride team as our new Business Development Specialist. Lisa’s travels have taken her on memorable bike rides in the Swedish countryside, along the Danube from Vienna to Budapest, and in Cairo and Mexico City (not recommended for the timid cyclist!) among other places. With career experience in Social Media Strategy and PR, International Communication, Cultural Diplomacy, Journalism, International Tourism and Hospitality, and Arts Management and Marketing, Lisa is happy to be back with a company where she won’t be the only weirdo to ride her bike to work. Lisa is also a novice filmmaker and art critic, and you can see some of her work here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YydO0ookgrc

Catalina L

Catalina Lavalle is one of our expert tour guides when she’s not acting or performing in the city. Originally from the DC metro area she loves life in the Big Apple and particularly her neighborhood of Greenpoint! She’s a funny, high-energy girl who loves to travel and explore her surroundings, often behaving “like a tourist in her hometown”.
